How You Can Help Victims Of Typhoon Haiyan

by Katie Fustich

Friday, a super-typhoon struck the Philippines, leaving vast damage and a potential five-figure death toll. The country is doing its best to sort through the wreckage, but with emergency funds already depleted from a 7.2 magnitude earthquake four weeks ago and debris-covered highways making certain areas unreachable to aid, the situation remains incredibly grim. Power, water, and food are all scarce, creative an environment volatile to looting and violence. The New York Times coverage of the disaster reveals an almost inhuman level of destruction.

Here is how YOU can play a part in the relief efforts (in alphabetical order):

Action Against Hunger: This organization already has teams on the ground and is planning on working toward long-term restoration. Donate HERE.

ChildFund: The organization focuses on bringing food, water, and shelter to children at risk. They will also rebuild schools and set up counseling centers to help with the psychological impact of the storm. Donate HERE.

Doctors Without Borders: Gives the most in-need countries access to the best medical care from around the world. Donate HERE.

Habitat For Humanity: Working on providing shelter-repair kits to more than 30,000 families whose homes have been damaged. Donate HERE.

Oxfam: Teams are working to bring water and sanitation services to victims. Donate HERE.

ShelterBox: Donates temporary but sustainable homes for families who have been displaced. Donate HERE.

Unicef: Currently working on an airlift of desperately needed supplies for children across the country. Donate HERE.

World Food Programme: Bringing food across the country where access has become almost impossible. Donate HERE.
