Bluestockings Bookstore and Activist Center is a 16-year-old radical feminist haven on the Lower East Side with on a mission to empower people to challenge oppression by distributing feminist literature and resources. Basically, a bookstore after our own hearts. And right now Bluestockings needs help to make sure it thrives as a feminist sanctuary for the next 5 years.
Launching a crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo, the bookstore is hoping to raise $50,000 to revamp their new storefront, and do fundamental maintenance on flooring and electrical wires. Since Bluestockings is one of only 13 remaining feminist-identified bookstores in the U.S., it is seriously vital to keep them thrivin’ for the next 5 years.
Not does Bluestockings carry tons of necessary feminist literature, they also serve some delicious vegan fair trade treats out of their cafe, and host super cool events for the community. From yoga nights to discussions on topics like masculinity, the events happening at Bluestockings are important and beneficial to the cause of feminism.
