It’s rare that a craft book seeks crowd funding in order to go ahead, but this is just the case with the Craftivist Collective’s Little Book Of Craftivism.
Brit founder Sarah Corbett, who started out blogging as A Lonely Craftivist (and self professed burnt out activist), has captured U.K. press attention and grown a worldwide group of like-minded crafters passionate about ending equality via the power of craft.
With the blessing of crafty activist Betsy Greer, who first coined the term ‘craftivism’, Sarah continues to promote the movement’s message of making beautiful things slowly, allowing the message sink in for the crafter as well as passerby who encounter their work.
Through her trademark kits, which include miniature cross-stitch protest banners, prints of Craftivist Collective projects, and embroidered ‘Don’t Blow It’ handkerchiefs, it’s clear she has a knack for ideas. What really sets this kind of activism apart though its deceptively twee format. In the words of the collective, “a spoonful of craft helps the activism go down!”
