It’s been a long time since the days of Salt & Pepa, with their trusty DJ Spinderella bringing it on the turntables. But female DJs are still bringing it hard, with one of my favorites spinning right now being DJ SoSuperSam. Her off-the-tables name is Samantha Duenas. You might know her from a couple different projects, as she is kind of a Jill of all trades. She worked publicity in LA and frequently guest blogs around the internet about all things style. Most recently, she’s been on tour as Childish Gambino’s (Donald Glover, or Troy on Community) trusty DJ.
Yesterday, she dropped a mixtape that you should give a listen to. While most of her tapes, all streaming on soundcloud, have an awesome, dancey, disco-reminiscent meets old school hip-hop vibe, this one is super mellow. It matches the mood of anyone who’s recently been through a break-up, or someone who’s falling into the uncertainty of a new relationship. It even starts with a clip from the ultimate new relationship, fresh breakup mashup movie (500) Days of Summer.
