I know the week is just beginning but keep yourself amped up with my new girl crush: Emmy Wildwood. The Brooklynite just released a new video for her single “Chick Chick Boom (Tired of Love)” and I’m nowhere near tired of it. Wildwood considers her sound “weird pop” and says “Chick Chick Boom” is “a breakup song, it’s a song of being fed up and not feeling like you can do it again.” I’m not sure I’d call her dreamy vocals and dark (yet somehow upbeat) synth “weird,” but I’d definitely call them damn fine. The single is a perfectly angsty summer sing-a-long and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head since first listen.
Wildwood was inspired to start up her own record label to share all the great local music she was experiencing, with the world. “I love having the label”, she told BUST. “I love the feeling of helping other artists and being helped in return. Community is everything when it comes to the music scene. Everyone influences each other. It’s how musical revolutions happen.”
Under her Tiger Blanket record label and vintage boutique, Wildwood hosts monthly showcases for unsigned yet talented local bands and also prints, free of charge, 7 inch vinyls of the associated artists. Keep a look out for Emmy in September, when she releases her debut solo album, produced by Tomek Miernowski (of Mos Def and Outasight fame).
