‘Harry Potter And The Cursed Child’ Cast Photos Have Emerged And We Are Amped!

by Grace Easterby

“Harry Potter and The Cursed Child,” the 8th story in the Potter series, is set to be released at London’s Palace Theater in just a matter of weeks! With the story picking up 19 years after the last book, we will witness Harry and Ginny’s child Albus Severus alongside Hermione and Ron’s child Rose Granger-Weasley as they embark on their first year at Hogwarts. The play is set to preview on June 7th and officially open July 30th. Yesterday, the play’s Facebook page released a number of photos, showing off the new cast adorned in their costumes.

Hermione and Ron’s family is portrayed just as we’d expect– strong, brilliant, and kind-hearted. These features are not new compared to the Ron and Hermione we saw in the movies. What is new is the Granger-Weasley family is mixed race. Featuring Noma Dumezweni as Hermoine Granger and Cherrelle Skeete as Rose Granger-Weasley, the new cast is — refreshingly — adding some diversity to the beloved series.

Unsurprisingly, when Noma Dumezweni was first announced to play Hermoine, fan responses were both supportive and negative, some more bigoted than others. Here at BUST, we can’t wait for the new play and think Noma is a perfect match for Hermoine. Sporting an impressive resume of works, Noma is an outstanding stage actress whose commitment to herwork creates a strength of character that is necessary for taking up such a pivotal character in a world-renowned series.
