Happy Jewelry

by Intern Arielle

Handmade jewelry is awesome. Colorful jewelry is awesome. Handmade colorful jewelry is way awesome. As someone who still wishes they could dress up like Rainbow Brite, you can imagine my excitement when I stumbled across Tierra on Spring street, a small store full of handmade jewelry in the most rich, vibrant colors these eyes have ever seen. The store, which looks more like a wooden hole in the wall, is one of the happiest places in the LES. Being inside Tierra is like entering a rainbow. When you walk in a smiley woman greets you with a (fake) flower that you get to keep and explains that all the accessories are handmade leather. The walls are lined with earrings, necklaces, rings, hair accessories, and bracelets while uplifting Spanish music plays in the background. What’s even better is the prices are affordable, making it an ultra delight. Ranging from $5 all the way to $200, Tierra also sells purses, wallets, and decorations that’ll brighten up even Dracula’s lair. The jewelry makes for great birthday gifts (I’ve given several friends bracelets from Tierra, they effin’ loved them) since it won’t break the bank. What’s on my wish list as of right now? The flower hair clips in turquoise, magenta, and amarillo.

Check out the store’s website for a list of lovely products.

Tierra’s New York City store is located on Spring street between Crosby and Lafayette.
