Happy Belated National GoTopless Day!

by Intern Brittany J.

For those of you who missed it (and this includes me), yesterday was National GoTopless Day. Groups of protesters in cities all over the country took to the streets and the beaches with signs and tits-a-plenty, many complete with little latex nipple covers so as to actually not get arrested. Some men even donned bras and bikini tops in order to stand in solidarity with their shirtless sisters.

This event was founded by GoTopless.org, who truly believe that if men can go without shirts (and some of them have bigger breasts than I do), why can’t women? Apparently this group is also somewhat based in the Raelian movement, which believes that life on Earth was created by advanced extraterrestrial scientists. I mean, can’t say I agree, but hey, if they’re all for equality and we are supposed to be a country based in freedom to choose, how can I not be down with this?

Not every woman in the country has to be topless all the time, but it would be nice to have the option, especially since there is none at all. I’m not going to walk around with my bubs out, but if someone else wants to, then by all means.

Here’s a brief video I found that seems to bring many of the issues pertaining to this protest to light.
