Hand Job Academy Trio Raps About Periods And It’s Wonderful

by Eloise Giegerich

In case Hand Job Academy’s awesome name didn’t already intrigue you, then the Brooklyn-based rap group’s new video, “Shark Week” is sure to do the job (ha ha ha GET IT?!?).

In the video, the trio, made up of three friends—Lil T, a.k.a. Meg Skaff, a 23-year-old filmmaker and the director of “Shark Week”; Clara Bizna$$, a.k.a. Claire Beaudreault, a professional nail artist; and Ash Wednesday, whose real name remains anonymous, as she is a kindergarten teacher by day—combines the most insane rhymes and topics you could imagine, from Twin Peaks’ “goner” Laura Palmer to Tumblr thinspiration, from “Sharon Tate” to “masturbate.” Seriously y’all, this video has everything.

What’s wonderful is that, beneath the fun, “Shark Week” takes the socially taboo topic of female menstruation and celebrates it in the wildest and craziest way possible. As Ash explains in a recent interview with The Cut, “It’s not just about periods. It’s about owning your period.”

Watch (and be blown away by) the video below, and check out The Cut interview here.
