Here’s How You Can Help Unseat The Judge In The Stanford Rape Case

by Katherine Barner

As we all know, Stanford swimmer Brock Aaron Turner was convicted of 3 counts of sexual assault. He was only sentenced to 6 months in jail by a certain Judge Aaron Persky, who was anxious about the “impact” jail may have on Turner’s future swimming career. A judge who assists convicted rapists with disregard to the lifetime of trauma the survivor will try to overcome is not the type of judge that deserves to be on the stand. This is not the first time Persky has made questionable sentencing decisions, and if something isn’t done, it may not be the last.

What is a better way to join forces against the patriarchy than to party with a purpose? That is exactly what secret female society (yes, secret female society!!) GRLCVLT are doing, in effort to express dissatisfaction with the sentencing of rape case of Stanford student Brock Turner given by Judge Aaron Persky. At this party, printed supplies and addressed envelopes for all interested persons to fill out in order to unseat Judge Aaron Persky will be provided.

GRLCVLT and Holyrad Studio, in Brooklyn, are teaming together to contribute in the movement to unseat Judge Aaron Persky. There will also be free drinks and live music for the 21+ event because, well, it is a party!

If you aren’t a New Yorker or can’t make the party, no fear! An electronic petition was launched by Stanford Law professor Michele Landis Dauber in effort to remove Persky from the stand. The petition is continuously updated with ways to help the recall effort for those who live outside of Santa Clara, California. Your voice counts and can make a difference.

To go to this event, you can RSVP on Facebook, or simply show up!
