Fine, we admit it: BUST loves witches. We consider Sabrina and her aunts our homies. The potential Charmed reboot is already our new favorite TV show despite the fact that NO ONE HAS CONFIRMED WHETHER IT’S ACTUALLY HAPPENING *shakes fist at sky*. The definite remake of The Craft remake has us waiting on pins and needles for updates. We can sing the entire Wicked soundtrack, with or without music. Our very own Craft Lady Callie even made a two-month foray into the world of modern witching not too long ago.
Needless to say, we love a little toil and trouble. And once you see this project by Polish artist Kataryzna Majak, so will you.
“I somehow felt there is something that pulls me toward the realm of the witch,” Majak explained to Slate earlier this week. “Even though a witch to me was still a scary character whose deformed image survived in fairy tales and movies.”
The project, titled Women of Power, showcases 29 Polish women whose spiritual practices lie outside the national norm (spoiler alert: none of them resemble the poison-apple stereotype). Wiccans to Druids, healers to enchantresses, the spectrum of beliefs represented is intentionally vast – a welcome change from the homogeneity of Poland’s 90 percent Catholic population.
“The result,” Majak finished, “is a surprising (for Poland) selection of spiritual paths many people never heard of or never realized existed here.”
But even across the pond, that enchanting result has us spellbound. Check it, BUSTies.
