GIVEAWAY: Win Tickets to See Nellie McKay at the ‘Downtown Express’ Soundtrack Release Party!

by Laurel Walsh

David Grubin’s Downtown Express may not open until June 25th, but its musical score is already making waves. The film follows a promising Julliard violin student who falls for a street performer and joins her band. When the musicians happen to be played by Philippe Quint and Nellie McKay, it’s easy to see how critics are falling for this film.

If you don’t already know and love Nellie McKay as the magical puff of feminist fairy dust that brought you such gems as “Mother of Pearl (Feminists Don’t Have A Sense of Humor),” do yourself the biggest favour of your day and click the heck out of that link.

On Monday June 24th, Nellie joins Philippe and costar Michael Bacon to celebrate the release of the Downtown Express soundtrack by playing its tunes at Joe’s Pub in The Public House, NYC. They’ll also be screening clips from the film and featuring special guest performances by Alyson Greenfield and Mieka Pauley. And you’re invited!

One lucky BUST Blog reader will get two tickets to this exclusive show.

For your chance to win, simply:

1. Comment below with the name of your favourite music movie. For example, mine is Amadeus (which also happens to be directed by David Grubin!).

2. Send an email to [email protected] with your commenter name in the subject line.

We’ll choose our winner on Thursday, June 20. Good luck!
