Girls Who Code Smashes Taboos with New Video Game “Tampon Run”

by Mariana Garces

Girls Who Code is at it again! High school students Andrea Gonzales and Sophie Houser, two friends who met at the educational computer science program Girls Who Code, created the new video game Tampon Run as their final project, and it’s as great as it sounds. (Don’t worry, the game is not about sending your dad out during your period and crossing your fingers he buys the right brand.)

Never has a video game so aptly tackled the social stigma against menstruation as in this game, while also pointing out how comfortable we are with violence, guns, and blood in other video games.

The rules for the game are simple: use your keyboard keys to jump and shoot tampons at your enemies, who will try to steal your tampon supply (hands off!).

We love the game and the whole message behind it. Can’t what to see what comes from GWC next!
