‘Girl Meets World’ Star Rowan Blanchard Comes Out On Twitter

by Erika W. Smith

Rowan Blanchard is so much more than the talented star of the Disney Channel’s Girl Meets World (yes, that’s the sequel to Boy Meets World). The 14-year-old has spoken out in favor of intersectional feminism, gun control, human rights and many other worthy causes, making her an inspiration for people of all genders and ages. Now, Rowan is opening up a conversation about sexuality and representation by coming out as queer on Twitter.

It all started when a fan tweeted #BisexualRileyMatthews2K6, referring to the character Rowan plays on Girl Meets World.

Rowan responded, “would really be here for this! if not Riley- its vvv important to me, being queer, that there is representation on our show. & being queer to me just means not putting a label on sexuality- just existing.”

She added, “in my life-only eva liked boys however i personally dont want to label myself as straight gay or whateva so i am not gonna give myself labels to stick with-just existing :)”

In an adorable aside, she corrected her own grammar: “OMG I FORGOT TO PUT A COMMA BETWEEN STRAIGHT AND GAY PLS DON’T KILL ME.”

Rowan then answered a fan’s question, clarifying that she is “open to liking any gender in future is why I identify as queer.”

Go Rowan! If you’re just now hearing about her, we recommend reading her essay on intersectional feminism and her recent Rookie piece on not apologizing. We can’t wait to see what insightful thoughts she shares next.
