This weekend is chock full of stuff to do in NYC (plus Philly, DC and Boston), thanks to the first-ever Permanent Wave Festival. There’s music, workshops and events to add a dash of feminist-fun to the weekend. According to the fest’s Facebook page, “the weekend-long festival is an opportunity for PWers around the country to meet, collaborate, and plan for the future.”
So what’s in store at PW Fest? Every day features an all-ages show along with other exciting activities. Musical acts include Early RIser, Leda, Mindtroll and Kelly Montoya. Saturday seems to be workshop day, with titles that sound like your favorite college class. There’s Punk Drumming Techniques & Patterns, How to Succeed in Show Booking Without Really Crying, Feminist Action (and Reaction), and DIY: Art as Activism (for Everyone!). PW Fest is also sponsoring the Daily Acts of Feminism Project’s 1st Exhibit. To know what’s happening which day and to RSVP, click here.
PW does so much more than this weekend’s festival. According to their website, the women of PW organize shows for female-fronted bands, have a feminist book club, sponsor film screenings and throw fun parties plus among a million other things. Check them out!
