FYF Sends an SOS!

by Team Intern

Plucky 18 year old Sean Carlson started the independent and aptly-named F Yeah Fest in 2004, alongside his buddy Keith Morris (yes, that Keith Morris, of Black Flag and the Circle Jerks). Since then, the festival has grown out of it’s Echo Park home to a new locale in the LA Historic State Park, and the FYF crowd holds even more events all year. And, needless to say, the festivals draw a killer crowd of performers including Ladyhawke, Sarah Silverman, No Age, Japanther, and Matt and Kim.

Which brings us to this fall! On September 5th, FYF hosts their 6th annual music event (in Los Angeles Historic State Park, as usual): FYF presents Save Our State Parks. A $20 ticket will get you access to incredible bands like Lightning Bolt, Ninjasonik, Black Lips, and Converge, and guest comedians like Adult Swim troublemakers Tim and Eric. This year, FYF is hoping to spread awareness about CA state parks, which due to budget cuts, are under threat of losing critical funding.

Apart from volunteers, and tons of publicity for the cause, FYF just announced a very cool writing contest to spread love for the parks and give some worthy people lots of free stuff. It’s as easy as this: write in your experiences about one or more of Cali’s state parks, and the best story gets all kinds of goodies–CDs, gift bags, and passes to the FYF. Or, (awesome contest number 2) if you can prove to FYF just how much you want to get to LA for the festival, they’ll pay for the gas, hotel, and tickets you need to get there (including VIP passes). Find out more about these contests here and get crackin’! You’ve got no excuse not to!
