For The Villain In You…

by Debbie Stoller

I’m completely obsessed with female villains. In fact, when The White Witch (Tilda Swinton) slapped the little boy in the first Chronicles of Narnia movie, I actually started laughing and clapping in the theater.

But my obsession all started with the original bad ass bitches of Disney.

Let’s face it–they were so much more interesting than those stupid, singing princesses. They were also wayyy more dark and sinister than many of their male counterparts (like Jafar or Gaston, for instance).

Anyway, that said, I was pretty excited to learn that MAC Cosmetics has teamed up with Disney to create a limited edition collection inspired by its most (in)famous female antagonists.

The Venomous Villains line will hit stores on Sept. 30th and will include blush, powder, eye shadows, lipstick, lip gloss, and nail polish inspired by Cruella De Vil (101 Dalmatians), Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty), Evil Queen (Snow White), and–despite being a dude–Doctor Facilier from Princess and the Frog.

{Note: I was unable to find an explanation as to why they didn’t include Ursula from The Little Mermaid or Lady Tremaine from Cinderella. I also have no idea why women would want to wear makeup inspired by some tacky-ass male villain}

The collection’s fall-appropriate color pallet features 40 hues developed by Pantone reproductions of original Disney drawings. And they have really awesome names!

For example, you can expect a cherry-red lipstick (“Innocence Beware”) inspired by Cruella, a gun-metal/purple green nail polish (“Mean & Green”) inspired by Maleficent and a deep blue/purple eyeshadow (“Vile Violet”) inspired by the Evil Queen.

While I find it sad how desperately Disney is trying to appeal to adult women these days, overall, this makeup definitely seems worth checking out.

And at least it’s not nearly as pathetic as The Disney Bridal Collection or as offensive as MAC’s new Rodarte collection.

So…which Disney villain do you think has the most bad-ass style?
