Love graphic novels? Or fun stories that are touching and heartwarming? Just have a penchant for visual narratives? Are you a romantic at heart?
How about all of the above?
If so, have we got an event for you!
Graphic novelist, and BUST’s boy du jour from the ’90s Adrian Tomine will be at the Strand in NYC on Wednesday February 9th for the launch of his book Scenes From An Impending Marriage, in conversation with fellow artist and author Leanne Shapton (Native Scenes of Canada, Was She Pretty, Important Artifacts).
Initially created as a personal wedding favor for his guests to enjoy, Tomine’s sweet memoir is a tender and funny look at the frantic process of preparing for marriage in the modern era.
The Comics Reporter writes, “Scenes From An Impending Marriage is certainly the most adorable comics effort to stroll down the red carpet in quite some time…The serene and lovely thing about Scenes From An Impending Marriage is that the couple seems blissfully united against these various not-exactly-earth-shattering obstacles.”
Adrian Tomine is more renowned for his series, Optic Nerve, with markedly grittier, more restrained, but just as brilliant, subject matter. Here, with Scenes From an Impending Marriage, he opens up a more tender side of himself for the reader, as we look in on his relationship with his fiancée, Sarah, as they create a wedding just for them.
This anticipated work is definitely sure to be splendid, and hearing Tomine discuss it should be just as grand!
