Female Senator Wants to Regulate Men’s Bodies, Viagra Access

by Daisy Becerra

Filibustering? Protesting? How about turning the tables on men’s reproductive rights to get your point across? In the endless parade of this year’s badass women leaders taking a stand, let’s talk about the bill that Ohio Senator Nina Turner (D) introduced this spring.

SB 307 would essentially regulate men’s reproductive health in a more invasive way than ever before. The Cleveland Democrat compared the measure to men legislating “a woman’s womb,” which gets into tricky territory, especially when it comes to reproductive health. We know that’s not okay, so why would a male equivalent be okay? Senator Turner’s move really has got us seeing role reversal in real time.

SB 307 requires men to see a sex therapist, complete a cardiac stress test, and receive a signed notarized affidavit from their partner confirming impotency—all before getting a prescription for erectile dysfunction drugs.

Google’s most SFW ‘sex therapist’ picture.

Once patients take the drugs, they’re required to continually be “tested for heart problems, receive counseling about possible side effects and receive information about ‘pursuing celibacy as a viable lifestyle choice.’” Too much, or just enough to get lawmakers talking?

In all seriousness, Nina Turner is yet another female lawmaker who has fought back against Republicans wrongfully regulating women’s reproductive health. SB 307 is a direct response to efforts working to ban abortions and restrict birth control, and let me tell you, I’m already a big fan of the no non-sense and totally fearless attitude of Senator Turner.

What’s your take on the Ohio bill? I think the bill sounds more beneficial than evasive, albeit slightly bothersome. Then again, I’m not a dude – but we all know speaking for others is what male Republicans do best.
