Fave Calendars of 2011

by Gabi

I love calendars. One of the things I consider when choosing one is if there’s space to write in it. I’m the type of person who uses their calendar as a planner, so when I look at my wall I have my schedule right there! Brooklyn artist, Caroline Pequita has a perfect calendar for this. She hand-drew all the images, and printed them herself on light paper that you can write on. The calendar is full of the adorable creatures she calls Womanimals and other whimsical critters.

I also love mini-calendars so I can keep track of my schedule on the go. My favorite zinester Cindy Crabb, created the perfect pocket calendar this year. It’s a journal and a DIY calendar all in one! There’s no year and the dates in the month are blank so you can start at any point and fill them in yourself. This is perfect if you are kicking yourself for not getting a planner yet. There are also empty pages in-between months so you can reflect on the past month or write down your plans for the next one. It’s tiny and light-weight, the perfect thing to carry around wherever.

Another thing I love about calendars is when they include dates of long-forgotten historical events or birthdays of unknown revolutionaries. The Autonomedia Calendar of Jubilee Saints is the ultimate calendar for this. They profile a different radical hero for every day of the year. This is perfect for anyone interested in radical history or for anyone looking for a new hero.

Don’t think I forgot about all of you looking for a sexy pin-up calender. Original Plumbing is a trans-male quarterly focused on the sexuality and culture of FTM transguys. This year OP has released a calender featuring steamy pin-ups of 12 of their models. This calendar is so hot it’s already sold out. But you can still get your hands on these guys by picking up the latest issue of Original Plumbing. That’s my round-up of my fave calendars for 2011! From getting yourself organized, to learning your radical history, to steamy pin-ups, I hope there’s a calender here for you. Happy New Year!
