Ellen to Get Mark Twain Award for Humor

by Intern Kerishma

And the year continues to be totally excellent for funny ladies.

Earlier today it was announced that Ellen DeGeneres would be receiving the 15th annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Her “unique brand of humor” and ability to find “hilarity in the mundane” has helped her join the ranks of past winners like Whoopi Goldberg, Lily Tomlin, and Steve Martin. She acknowledged the honor in her typical Ellen-ish way, saying, “To get the same award that has been given to people like Bill Cosby, Tina Fey and Will Ferrell, it really makes me wonder…why didn’t I get this sooner?”

But Ellen’s not exactly wanting for awards. Her talk show, The Ellen Degeneres Show, has won 32 Daytime Emmy Awards, and she has won 11 People’s Choice Awards.

The awards ceremony itself, traditionally held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C., is always a lot of fun to watch, and Ellen’s night should be no exception– it’s sure to be full of awesome dance moves.

And here, just because it’s one of my favorite Mark Twain Award moments, we have Jane Krakowski singing and dancing “Muffin Top” for Tina Fey:
