BUST is stoked to welcome these rad lady DJ’s to the upcoming Spring BUST Craftacular! This two-day event is packed with great excuses to get your groove on, one of which is celebrating those bravest of ladies among us who dare to not only exist but to shine in spaces that are considered tough for women to break into. We’ll be hosting street legend, Claw Money, who dared to shape our public spaces; vendors like Google Ghost, who dared to own the phrase ‘Nasty Woman’; and lady skateboarders like twins Chris & Niki Culma who dared to ride like the wind. The music industry is another sector where we as a community can highlight and celebrate the women who bring life to the night, check out these DJs that will be spinning this weekend and come check them out this weekend in Greenpoint:
DJ Alice KM – Saturday, May 6, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
DJ Alice.km, AKA Kaitlyn Mills, is young blood in Brooklyn’s electronic scene. As a multi-genre DJ, she has been seen spinning upbeat disco sets for parties such as Caché, and throwing down hard hitting techno tracks as a guest on WAXX.FM. alice.km is a member of The Athena Collective, and is a frequent performer at venues across the New York City circuit including Lot 45 Bushwick, Tilt BK, Trans-Pecos, and The Knitting Factory. She is also the founder of Midnight Society, an underground event series that features dark music, installations, and visual projects. Check her out on Facebook & Soundcloud.
DJ Shananogans – Saturday, May 6, 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.
DJ Shananogans is bringing Prince to BUST Craftacular with Rock N’ Roll jams from Abba to Zappa. When discussing music, Shannon doesn’t hold back. “My favorite band of all time is The Clash, they’re the only band that matters. I also adore David Bowie. He was a legend & a pioneer, and Dolly Parton, talk about an inspirational woman! Right now I can’t get enough of Sylvan Esso or the new The xx records. Their modern rhythms have been motivational in an otherwise odd year.”
When Shannon isn’t being a bomb NYC DJ, she is seeing live music, discovering new bands, writing, traveling, & taking photographs.
DJ Barbie Frudakis – Sunday, May 7, 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Closing up BUST Craftacular is the amazing DJ Barbie Frudakis! We love Barbie for bringing lesser known disco music and old funk to Craftacular, with a dash of punk. Barbie started djing over 10 years ago on Long Island. When asked what she likes about being a DJ, she said, “I like being able to read a room and create a mood. I like to help people enjoy their night more.” And she does!
You can catch Barbie every third Friday of the month in Greenpoint at Abar and every first day of the month at Aunt Ginny’s.
BUST Craftacular is coming back to Brooklyn this May 6 & 7 to the Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse. Join us for this two-day shopping event from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. packed full of DIY workshops, skateboarding, refreshments, and music!
