disFIGURED: A Movie about Women and Weight

by Team Intern

DisFIGURED is a movie about two women dealing with their bodies and their body issues. Deidra Edwards plays Lydia, a Venice Beach fat acceptance activist who nevertheless struggles with her own feelings toward her body. She meets Darci, played by Stacy Lawrence, a recovering anorexic, when Darci tries to join her fat acceptance group. The movie is about the relationship between the two women, and of course their relationships with themselves.

The film has been an official selection of many film festivals, including the AFI Dallas international and CineQuest San Jose, and won the Grand Jury prize at the deadCENTER film festival. Critics have been raving about it, with Steve Rhodes of InternetReviews.com calling it a "delightful and honest story, full of poignant and humorous moments."

There will be an exclusive New York City engagement starting tomorrow, July 18th, at the Two Boots theater. Showtimes will be Friday at 5 PM and Saturday through Thursday at 7 PM.
