L.A.’s badass rockers reveal their beauty basics
Deap Vally’s scuzzy feminist anthem “Smile More” is just the tip of the awesome iceberg that is their new album Femejism (out September 18 on Nevado Music). On its 13 tracks (produced by Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner) the duo serves up intense garage rock riffs, with vocalist/guitarist Lindsey Troy getting primal with her singing, and drummer Julie Edwards giving a backbeat you’ll want to headbang to. We asked these babes—who believe “confidence is beautiful” above all else—to open up their bags and fill us in on the beauty prods that rock their world. –Lisa Butterworth

Nivea Creme | I literally don’t go anywhere without Nivea—I actually use it as a lip moisturizer. I get a bunch of the little blue cans and put them in all my bags.
Splat Hair Color | This is the stuff I use for my DIY sherbet hair colors. It is a great temporary color (when mixed with white conditioner) and super easy to find, since it’s sold in your typical big box pharmacy supply.
Olay Complete Moisturizer | I’ve used this on my face for about 20 years.
SheaMoisture Coconut Oil | I basically use this everywhere and anywhere on my body, and, incidentally, on my baby’s body. It’s a cure all.

Savannah Bee Hand Cream | I’m a cream queen and this stuff, made from primo ingredients like beeswax and royal jelly, is the bomb. It has a velvety texture, is incredibly moisturizing, and smells so good.
Weleda Lip Balm | This lip balm is the best. It’s all natural and full of beeswax, so it smells delish.
La Tierra Sagrada Salt Spray | My friend makes this line of natural hair products in her home in L.A. This salt spray is so special; she infuses it with sacred plant essences of ayahuasca and palo santo.
Lush Dark Angels Cleanser | I’m obsessed with this thick, black, face and body scrub/wash made of charcoal, black mud, avocado oil, and other fun stuff. I love its wet charcoal smell.
