I know it’s CMJ madness, but one of the top shows to see this weekend will be Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips performing 13 Most Beautiful…Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests, at NYU’s Skirball Center on Friday night. The duo will perform a live soundtrack to Warhol’s Screen Tests (shot between 1964 and 1966 at the factory) and include such icons as Edie Sedgwick, Dennis Hopper, Nico and Lou Reed, among others. I’m super stoked for this show, as we listen to the music here at BUST HQ pretty much all the time. They’ve been touring this project around a bit and have gotten rave reveiws, the New York Times says “The music unabashedly translates the ominous drone of early Velvet Underground songs like I’m Waiting for the Man and Venus in Furs into a more modern electronic mode reminiscent of Giorgio Moroder’s chic torture-chamber disco.” Sounds good to me!
Tickets are still available, show starts at 8pm.
