Cyndi Lauper Finally Sings “Girls Just Want Equal Funds”

by Kaleigh Wright

Cyndi Lauper has long been an role model for the feminist world and an ally to the LGBTQ community, so it is no surprise that when she stopped by The Late Late Show with James Corden this week to celebrate the drop of her new album, Detour, she used the opportunity to drop a little feminist agenda, as well.

Ever since Feminist Apparel created a t-shirt with the phrase, “Girls just want to have fun-damental rights,” adding a twist to Lauper’s ’80s hit, feminists everywhere have adopted the slogan as somewhat of an international campaign. We began wearing the shirts, posting the slogan to social media, and sprinkling the phrase into our everyday speech. But this week, reigning feminist icon (Queen) Cyndi Lauper finally recognized all of our devotion and wit.

Joined in duet by James Corden, the two performed the parody, “Girls Just Want Equal Funds.” Donning matching outfits and drool-worthy hot pink hair, the pair sang about the wage gap and a few other pertinent struggles women are facing on the daily.

“Guys if she’s mad it’s not PMS/It’s cause you do the same job but she’s making less.” But seriously.

Tell ‘em Cyndi!
