Craftacular Sneak Peek: Unusual Cards

by Amalia Graziani

Pin-Up Dino Revelation

Holidays and special occasions are all about rituals and established expectations. Associated terms do not include morbid imagery, giant insects, extraterrestrials, and flipping the bird. Which is exactly why I’ll be hitting up Unusual Cards for my holiday notes. With a focus on the holy trinity of pinup girls, dinosaurs and whiskey, Unusual Cards creates modern camp art by pairing disparate wholesome images that together are completely absurd. These extraordinarily clever little gems will be available in all their glory at BUST Magazine Craftacular at World Maker Faire NY and we’re excited.

Christmas Snacks

As eccentric as the images she creates, the artist describes herself as follows:

Born in the Arctic tundra in 1952, artist Francesca Berrini was raised by polar bears until the age of seven. Her interest in art began to develop immediately after being captured by an an oil exploration team. Unable to speak or read, she proved adept at creating humorous sculptures out of seal carcasses and beer cans….Although she has yet to learn to speak any language fluently, she is able to communicate with her dog.

Yup, I’m in love. And with categories like “giant food”, “days of the dinosaurs” and “Jesus and friends”, who wouldn’t be? (My grandparents.) Bask in the retro excellence below:
