Cosmically ‘Steller’ Moving Photos

by Kristina Uriegas-Reyes

Recently featured on The Ones 2 Watch, check out some cosmic inspired work by one of my favorite up and coming photographers, Ignacio Torres. His most recent project, Stellar, uses a similar gif format to blogger Jamie Beck‘s lovely cinemagraphs, but while her photos create a more realistic movement and tone, Torres’ work evokes a different kind of magically whimsical quality that instantly catches your eye.

He explains Stellar by stating on his website that, “The project began from the theory that humans are made of cosmic matter as a result of a stars death. I created imagery that showcased this cosmic birth through the use of dust and reflective confetti to create galaxies. The models organic bodily expressions as they are frozen in time between the particles suggest their celestial creation. In addition, space and time is heightened by the use of three-dimensional animated gifs. Their movement serves as a visual metaphor to the spatial link we share with stars as well as their separateness through time.”

I’m a little obsessed with these photos and know I’ll be keeping an eye on this guy!
