Comic of the Week: What’s New, Pussycat?

by Jennifer Welsing

There are a lot of comic books out there. A lot. Between new, old, professional, and DIY, it can be dangerous finding a good comic. If you’re like me and like the self-published, stories-about-real-life kind of books then I have one for you. What’s New, Pussycat? by Mari Naomi is a perfect graphic novel that might make you a little sad and maybe a little enlightened.

What’s New, Pussycat? tells a tale of a young Mari and an acquaintance that she views as a bit of a dork, but nice nonetheless. Beautifully drawn in single panel page panels, the novel reveals how her friend left his imprint on Mari’s life. It’s a fairly quick read but one that you’ll want to read over and over again. If you enjoy that one, check out her other books like Kiss and Tell: A Romantic Resume Ages 0 to 22 or some of her online comics. You can take a look at all of Mari work at marinaomi.com
