Its Bike Prom time! BUST Magazine will host the Best Dressed competition at The Tender Trap (66 Greenpoint Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222) this Friday, March 4th. The cyclists who come dressed in the fanciest duds as deemed by BUST’s own Callie Watts will win $50, a bottle of Champagne & a very naughty swag bag from the ladies of BUST – entry is free! Bike Prom will give competitors a chance to trade strategies and mingle before Monstertrack XVII, one of the world’s largest and highly regarded ‘alleycat’ races for fixed gear cyclists, now in its 17th year.
BUST friend and stellar DJ kween, That’s So Raben, of PUSSYPOWER fame and Sean Krames of Gold Whistle will be on the tables all night. Plus, BUST will be giving away free issues and crafty cyclista Heather Loop will be selling custom jewelry all the way from New Orleans. The party will be commemorated by local polaroid artist Nick McManus in an epic annual group photo.
If you’re a lady who likes to ride and are itching to test your skills, Monstertrack XVII is a great exploit to tackle. Though men and women are placed separately (the top five of each will go home with a treasure trove of cycling gear), there is nothing stopping a female contender from placing first and taking the ultimate bounty. Prizes include trophies, complete bikes, framesets, a custom embroidered messenger bag from R.E. Load, and a ton of other great swag from cycling staples like Chrome, Cinelli, and more. Racers come from across the country and from varied backgrounds to compete, find camaraderie with fellow cyclists and celebrate the liberating sport in the monster that is New York City. Dare to race? Register early here – the first 150 registrants are guaranteed a cycling cap and event t-shirt. In person registration begins from Saturday, March 5th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Ace Bar (531 East 5th Street, New York, NY 10009) with the race beginning at 3:30 PM sharp.
