Twenty-three women have filed suit against “Revenge Porn” site, Texxxan.com, and their webhost, GoDaddy (as if GoDaddy wasn’t already on your shit list).
Revenge Porn. That’s when your ex–or your one-night stand–posts pictures of you in your nakey. Online. Without consent. Sometimes it’s not even someone you know, just someone who’s figured out how to grab your digital photos off your phone (Yeah, those. The ones you took of yourself in the bathroom mirror).
It’s awful. And they shouldn’t. But people do. People are awful sometimes. They don’t always ask for consent. We know that. But here’s the interesting part. Since the story came out, Texxxan.com has been swamped, the site is down, at least temporarily, and in its place is a bit of a disclaimer:
(W)e find no wrong doing from the website which has only been a framework for the public viewers to build upon…but maybe the site provided an outlet for anger that prevented physical violence (this statement will be very controversial but is at least worth thinking about).
In other words, Texxxan sees itself as a humanitarian site. They’re doing women a favor by providing an outlet for men who feel jilted, lonely, rejected, or hurt. So Revenge Porn is actually a way of saving women from being beaten? Maimed? Killed? Because some guy got his feelings hurt?
Thanks Texxxan, for providing yet another place where things can be done without our consent.
