Calling All Designers! Win $500 and an UncommonGoods Contract!

by Maggie Carr

Maggie from the BUST Magazine Craftacular team here! We just wrapped up applications for our annual pop-up Craftacular at World Maker Faire–and let me tell you, it’s gonna be good.

One of the things I love most about my job is reviewing the wide array of gorgeous handmade products that our applicants submit each year. Every time I think I’ve seen all the soaps, screenprints, sodas, and sandals out there, a crafter surprises me with a fresh, interesting design and I’m hooked all over again.

This is especially true when it comes to jewelry. The best pieces in my arsenal are handmade; I just can’t understand why you’d bedeck yourself with crappy mass-made stuff when there is so much beautiful, high-quality, and affordable artist-designed bling out there.

UncommonGoods is one of my favorite purveyors of unique baubles, so I’m excited to spread the word about their Jewelry Design Challenge.

This month, guest judge Sharon Hitchcock, UncommonGoods Associate Buyer for Jewelry and Accessories, will judge portfolio submissions from jewelry makers around the world and choose semifinalists based on skill, style, and originality. From this pool, one lucky (and duh, talented) winner will receive $500 and an UncommonGoods vendor contract. Runners-up will receive a critique of their portfolio along with tips for marketing and growing their business. Everybody wins!

Click here to submit your portfolio of unique necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings. (No animal products or lead, please!) The deadline to apply is August 31, 2013 at 11:59 PM ET.

Good luck, y’all! I’ll have my (heavily bedecked) fingers crossed for you.
