To celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the release of their book, Manifesta, authors Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards have convened a panel of women to discuss what the feminist third wave is up to today.
From the event description:
“During the 1990s, new expressions of feminism were popping up: riot grrls were starting bands and making zines; activist/writers like Rebecca Walker and Naomi Wolf were writing best-sellers and starting organizations; and cultural critics were making new magazines like Bust and reclaiming all things disdained as girlie. Girl Power was the slogan and young women were leading the charge.
Our panel of influential writers and activists, including Jennifer Baumgardner, Amy Richards, Veronica Chambers, Debbie Stoller and Allison Wolfe, take on the current shift from Girl Power to “Opting In” to parenthood. As they did with sex, pop culture and politics in their 20s, third wavers are attempting to apply their raised consciousness, expectations and privileges to issues like family, career and money. Our panel of influential writers and activists, including Jennifer Baumgardner, Amy Richards, Veronica Chambers, Debbie Stoller and Allison Wolfe, take on the current shift from Girl Power to “Opting In” to parenthood.
