Bust Craftacular @ The Maker Faire in NYC : Weekend Recap

by Lauren Rubin

This past weekend the infamous Bust Craftacular joined forces with the Maker Faire at the New York Hall of Science, bringing you the ultimate in smart kid fun. We were so delighted to see all walks of life loving up the handmade goodies that our vendors had to offer, while rocking out to the totally sweet tunes provided by our own Busty turntable divas.

Amongst the great shopping supplied by crafty entrepreneurs like Meow Meow Tweet Tweet soap, Tug Boat Print Shop, Verameat, Chandi, Schmutzerland, Grand Wazoo and Sharp Shirter just to name a few, we also picked up several new skills along the way. Bust’s own Callie Watts and I dusted off our grade school summer camp style and gave a crash course on friendship bracelets to some newbies, while the Stitch and Bust booth schooled needle working lovers with the brand new Stitch Nation Full O’ Sheep Yarn and adorable free knitting patterns.

The weekend was filled to the brim with outrageous art bicycles, a rock and roll Tesla Coil show, a human scale interpretation of the classic board game Mouse Trap, hands on science demonstrations and robots created by some seriously talented high school students!

I think it’s safe to say that the Maker Faire definitely tapped into some uncharted creative waters causing the inspiration to flow like wine through out the entire weekend. With that being said it’s no wonder we worked up an appetite. Thankfully Gerard’s Paella supplied the grub with some serious savory Spanish flavor, cooking up a storm in some of the largest frying pans I have ever seen. It’s hard to believe that all of the awesome passed by it what seems to be the blink of an eye. Those who had the pleasure of attending this event know very well it was a sure treat for all five of the senses.
