If you’ve got a pretty things itch that you just gotta scratch, then Oh No Rachio! is the biz.
Designer and blogmaven Rachel Basinger designs and hand-illustrates stationery, cards, tote bags and ceramics as well as selling homewares (check out her baby succulents) and running a mega blog about the creative life.
Originally from London, Rachel is now based in Southampton – where trips into the historic New Forest inspire her nature-themed designs, from floral motifs to wreaths of leaves. She’s also a big lover of typography, designing her own hand-lettered fonts (as on this brilliant planter, which all have different messages, £40).
Rachel originally studied archaeology and started out designing and making notebooks, cards and gifts just for friends as a poor student. Luckily for us she swapped the Indiana Jones career path for running her own business. Oh No Rachio! has a strong emphasis on the handmade – she designs and illustrates everything by hand and any little helpers are British (screen printers in Stoke-on-Trent and Wales, a printer in London). The results are uplifting and often a bit mystical (such as the above print, from £15).
Rachel says: “The feeling of giving someone something unique that has been made with real love, care and attention can’t be beaten.”
Snap up her designs at the Bust Christmas Craftacular London on 22 November at York Hall, 5 Old Ford Road, Bethnal Green London E2 9PJ.
Entrance is £3 on the door, with free goodie bags for the first 100 shoppers. Click here for more info.
