BUST, all up in SXSW!

by Kelly McClure

Well I have been here in Austin for SXSW since Tuesday, but am just settling down at a computer now because there is SO much going on that I literally haven’t had my hands free for a second!  On Wednesday I went to a party at The Beauty Bar that showcased Mantler and Ben + Vesper, among others. The show was thrown by K Records, Asthmatic Kitty, Tomlab and Sounds Familyre. There were some minor equipment glitches in the opening set, but all-in-all, the show was a fun little romp.

Thursday was jam packed with awesome bands, and TWO very fun Bust events. First I started off at Latitude 30 for the Yorkshire party that kicked off with an awesome, but short set by Slow Club, who were followed by The Crookes, and Grammatics.

After all that, I made my way to two back to back Bust parties. The first party was at Cafe Mundi and was hosted by the fabulous Sandra Bernhard. The stand out band at this event was Kiss Kiss from New York who had the most amazing lady playing violin as a backing to noise band jams. Capping off the evening was the Other Lawn Party, held at the French Legation Museum. At this event we saw a grown woman pee in the grass, and could hear, but not quite see, the Dum Dum Girls play for a sea of sweaty, beer soaked bodies.

I can’t wait to see what happens next!
