My college offered an elective scuba diving class at night, and this one dude I went to school with, took it, and he told me once that he liked to "get all stoned and look at all the pretty colors from under water." I never really understood that until now.
From the creators of the international hit De La Guarda, Fuerzabruta ("Brute Force") hit NYC on October 11th. I was in attendance for this brand new original production which I can only compare to a crazy acid trip, but so much cooler, and sans drugs, of course.
This isn’t your typical theatrical experience. In this show, the performers and the audience interact together in a shared, almost dream-like environment where senses are heightened and things are litterally coming out of the walls. A man runs full throttle through a series of moving walls, performers dangle on opposite sides of a spinning sail, and a huge watery, splip-n-slide/blow-up pool is suspended just above your head, where performers are emmersed in water. Everything happens to heavy percussion and ambient music, strobe lighting, dry ice machines, and ridiculously awesome effects that are so engaging it’s almost like you’re in a trance. Fuerzabruta has been taking Europe and South America by storm, and now it’s NY’s chance to experience this amazing mind-fuck.
It will play at the Daryl Roth Theatre (20 Union Sq. East at the corner of 15th St.) Tuesday – Thursday at 8pm, Friday at 8 & 10:30pm, Saturday at 7 & 10pm, and Sunday at 7pm. Do yourselves a favor and go check it out for yourself. You won’t be sorry.
