Black is Back: New Single to Delight/Disturb the Internet

by Erina Davidson

Despite the fact that “Friday” was recently pulled off of YouTube, the “fun, fun, fun, fun” isn’t over for Rebecca Black fans.  Black has announced that she will be releasing a new single and video, “My Moment,” on Monday, July 18th. The video will be available at 8pm Pacific time on Black’s YouTube Channel, and the single will be available for purchase on iTunes the following day.

“My Moment” was written by Brandon “Blue” Hamilton and Quinton Tolbert and produced by Charlton Pettus. Hamilton has worked with Justin Bieber, while Charlton Pettus lists Hilary Duff and Tears for Fears (!) as past clients.
The video will be the visual recounting of Black’s ‘true life fairy tale’ in which she went from typical tween to internet sensation (or meme, you choose) whose song surpassed Bieber’s “Baby” to become “the most played YouTube clip of all time, with 167 million views and counting. ” I’ll admit that I’ve watched the video a fair amount of times; I couldn’t get enough of the awesome dancing, courtesy of Black’s backseat lady friends.

I can’t say that I I I too excited, but it looks like the Black Plague will continue to consume the internet with the release of “My Moment.” The singer plans on keeping her future tracks family-friendly, along the lines of her previous single. Regardless of my personal disinterest, I certainly hope the public will be nicer and less death-threaty this time around – she’s only 14-years-old, after all.
