Happy Bisexual Pride Day!
Growing up in San Francisco, I used to love walking around the Castro on Gay Pride Day and seeing glittering smiles on the faces of people who felt understood. It’s a shame that Bisexual Pride Day is not met with the same colorful rumpus! Bisexuality has had a hard time gaining visibility (visibility here referring to the increased or mainstream media exposure for a given group, i.e. LGBT appearances in TV and film) as a legitimate sexual orientation. It can be confusing for some to digest that a person may be attracted to more than one sex, neither sex, or anywhere else along that spectrum. Truth is: however you define your sexuality is up to you. So celebrate the fact that, on days like these, we all get a little wiggle room from the binaries that so often divide us.
Remember, the world is in constant state of change. Just because you like olives today, does not mean that you are bound to olive lovin’ for the rest of your life. If your sexuality is finite, awesome: If it is not, don’t sweat it. We are all humans looking for happiness, so let’s be supportive of each other. Even though there may not be a parade on your block, today should still be a celebration! Take it as an opportunity to be thankful for getting to love whoever or whatever you love; remind your friends and family that you are cool with who they are, because sometimes just a little gesture of acceptance can go a long way.

1. Anna Paquin is bisexual (True Blood marathon anybody?!)
2. Because loving who you want to love feels good, and celebrating who others love feels just as good!
3. Because it’s a reason to buy a cupcake
4. Because you, or someone you know, might enjoy a high five…
5. BECAUSE YOU LOVE EQUAL RIGHTS AND QUEER VISIBILITY!
