Big Gay Ice Cream Shop To Open in NYC!

by Kristina Uriegas-Reyes

If you live in NYC and are not familiar with the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck that drives around Manhattan, then listen close for I’m about to tell you of what is probably my favorite dessert truck in the world. Sure, the name is cute and  ice cream trucks are inarguably awesome, but no joke, the ice cream from the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck is seriously amazing.

Delicious (and sometimes weird) flavors include: the “Salty Pimp” (vanilla ice cream, dulce de leche and sea salt in a chocolate dip), the “Bea Arthur” (vanilla ice cream and dulce de leche mixed with crushed Nilla Wafers), the “Gobbler” (ice and whipped cream mixed with pumpkin butter and graham crackers), “Mermaid” (ice and whipped cream mixed with key-lime curd and graham crackers), and my personal favorite, the “Monday Sunday” (twist ice cream in a Nutella lined waffle cone with dulce de leche, sea salt, and whipped cream on the top). Guurl, you had me at sea salt and Nutella. yum! If you’re brave, you can also add things like cayenne pepper, olive oil, wasabi pea dust, or siracha to your cones!

These flavors alone are why I am super hyped that co-owners and partners Bryan Petroff and Doug Quint are opening The Big Gay Ice Cream Shop sometime in the next few weeks. The shop will be located at 125 E. 7th St., between First Ave. and Ave. A. Quint usually posts where the truck be every day via twitter, but the idea of visiting a shop sounds so much more enjoyable and easy. So whether you live in in NYC or plan to someday visit, this is one place you should definitely stop by.

Oh and in case you were wondering, that’s a portrait of Bea Arthur he’s painting on that unicorn!
