Best Kept Secret of the Summer: Canada’s Throwing a Cheap, Fantastic Music Festival!

by Oriana Asano

Ahh, festival season: the most daunting, wonderful, expensive social event of the season. With big games like Coachella (a.k.a. the reason I’ve been crying myself to sleep for the past month), Sasquatch!, and EDC, this year’s festival hype has been crazy enough for many of us to dish out hundreds of dollars. Loyal festivalgoers swear that it’s worth it every year, but what about those of us who (due to our financial restrictions) can only dream of rocking out to OutKast in a cute crochet top?

Usually we’d sit around feeling sorry for ourselves, but this year there’s no need to stay at home while our friends blow up Instagram with pictures of them meeting Jane’s Addiction. Because Festival d’Ete de Quebec announced an insane lineup for their 47th soiree! Big names like Lady Gaga, The Killers, Tegan and Sara, and Young the Giant will be gracing North America’s biggest outdoor stage in Québec City. The event will run from July 3rd to July 13th and an 11-day pass is only $78! Knock $10 off of that if you’re among one of the first 60,000 to buy a pass.

Quebecfest (our term) will feature over 300 performances on several stages, and the performance’s will run the gamut from big outdoor ragers to intimate inside shows. And as if 1,000 artists weren’t draw enough, street entertainers from acrobats, jugglers, and stilt walkers will be prancing around the grounds. Festival D’Été De Québec is offering attendees the opportunity to discover up-and-coming musicians and to watch international stars perform in small settings. No need to bring binoculars!

Festival tickets go on sale April 12 at noon and are available for purchase online or by phone at 1-855-800-3347. Don’t miss out on the deal of the summer! And if you’re jazzed about the prices but still on the emotional fence? We refer you back to our helpful rubric for the would-be festival goer. It’s full of lifestyle tips.
