Be Sucker Free with Nitty Scott, Real MC

by Intern Chrislande

Femcees have a hard time in the hip-hop game. The industry seems to think that it can only acknowledge the work of one female rapper at a time–and each new one gets compared to Nicki Minaj, no matter how little the two have in common. Though female rappers are often treated shittily, talented new acts are popping onto the scene every day. One of my current favorites is Nitty Scott, a Brooklyn-based rapper who spits ridiculous, clever, and insightful bars. Watch and listen to her in the video “Tell Somebody”:

On her site, she explains her desire “to inspire art and educate listeners,” and I’m inclined to believe she’ll fulfill her ambitions. I’m in love with her grassroots approach and the feel-good vibes I get from listening to her. Her lyrical fortitude’s also apparent on the track “Deep Cover”:

Download her mixtape Doobies x Popsicle Sticks, and put her in your iPod’s heavy rotation ASAP.
