Awesome Dad Hacks Video Game for Daughter So Pauline Saves Mario!

I know I’m not the only lady who is tired of nerd culture being such a boys club. Video games, comics, and online-discussion forums are bogged down with testosterone. Just take a scroll through a 9gag page to see what I mean. Ladies want to get in on the action, and constantly playing the damsel in distress is just, well, distressing. We are kickass IRL!

Luckily, one awesome dad is changing things, at least for his daughter. Mike Mika hacked classic Donkey Kong to allow her to play the game as a lady hero. Now the character Princess Pauline (the prequel to Princess Peach) rescues Mario from the angry ape, instead of the other way around.

This isn’t the first case of an awesome dad coding his way into our hearts. Last year, Mike Hoye, tweaked the wording in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker to make it possible for his daughter to be the game’s protagonist. He stated, “I’m not having my daughter growing up thinking girls don’t get to be the hero.”
