Not sure whether I’d be disgruntled or delighted to reach for my favorite candy bar at a deli, only to realize that it wasn’t a candy bar at all, but a plush replica. On second thought, I’d be pretty delighted, especially if everything in the whole store had been replaced by adorable, hand-stitched felt duplicates.
British artist Lucy Sparrow devoted seven months to making that happen, and her completed project, The Corner Shop, is on display now.
With help from supporters on Kickstarter, Sparrow rented out an abandoned corner store in east London and stocked it with 4,000 felt props, each sewn by hand. Candy, beer, magazines, even the cash register—everything is plush, with care and love in every stitch.
