And Jeremy Scott Said, “Put a Unicorn On It.” And It Was Good.

by Bridgette Miller

Everyone is talking about last night’s Academy Awards style today, and for good reason (Gwyneth Paltrow’s cape! Rooney Mara’s bangs! Angelina Jolie’s leg! Meryl Streep’s gold dress/Oscar-winning connection!). I always like to imagine what I’d wear if I could be on the red carpet at a major awards ceremony, and I think I may have found my dream dress on the Jeremy Scott Fall 2012 runway. If you haven’t seen The Unicorn Dress That Launched A Thousand Squeals yet, behold:

It’s everything I love in one outfit: flowy sheer black fabric and a giant freaking unicorn. And since Michelle Williams didn’t wear it last night, I see no reason why I can’t call dibs on it for a future event (I guess it’s better suited for The Grammys, so, uh, I better start working on my album). In fact, the entire Jeremy Scott Fall ’12 collection touched my twenty-something heart with its pastel-and-neon-colored 90s nostalgia. If you also grew up in the Nickelodeon era, some of these looks will seem very familiar to you:

This bustier-style top looks like every thing I owned in the year 1996: plastered in Lisa Frank stickers.

Here’s the full look. Prints on pants are definitely in, and I’m okay with bell bottoms being big again (LICHRALLY) as long as they’re not denim.

Springfield’s beloved bad boy Bart Simpson made several appearances on Scott’s runway, from the legwarmers above to this dress below:

For me, peace signs and flowers bring back memories not of Vietnam protests but of lurid fanfiction written about the Hanson brothers. And Peace Frogs. Remember those?

AIM emoticons finally get their fashion moment. I’m still trying (and failing) to find a way to convey the sunglasses smiley in words.

These are definitely not the overalls I wore while bopping plastic alligators with a mallet for hours at the mall, hoping I’d collect enough tickets to claim a hot-pink rabbit’s foot keychain as my prize. No, they are not.

What do you think of the Jeremy Scott collection? Is it awesome or ugly (or both)? What were some of your favorite Fashion Week looks?
