Brilliant friend of BUST Amy Schumer and the rest of the folks at her show, Inside Amy Schumer, made a stand against Comedy Central’s skewed codification system for dicks and pussies — “dick” is vernacular, “pussy” is profane — and they won.
The obscenely funny creator and titular star of Inside Amy Schumer, who cast a spell on BUST’s cover this April/May, joined the show’s head writer Jessi Klein and executive producer Dan Powell at New York Comedy Fest to debrief their war on words. The trio knew it was time to loosen up their network’s outdated standards that controlled what got bleeped and blurred: “Halfway through the first season, we started to realize that a lot of the show was addressing women’s issues and gender politics,” said Powell. “I’d written a letter, sort of like I’d write to my congressman, and I guess it struck a chord.”
Letter writing? Something so civil and simple actually worked? Amy Schumer called it “Dan’s Mr. Smith Goes to Washington moment.”

I love that she’s been given the green light on the p-word, Amy decides to use it to punctuate the gross and unfair treatment of female performers as dictated by the entertainment industry’s beauty standards (is there someone Amy can write a letter to about those?) that say you are either a sexy meerkat or … dumpy.
Get back to Comedy Central, Ms. Schumer, and start working on the third season of Inside without being rudely interrupted by bleeps and blurs. Please and thank you!
