Yesterday in L.A., Carrie Brownstein officiated a wedding. A true Renaissance woman, Brownstein is a riot grrrl goddess in Sleater Kinney, Portlandia star, memoir writer and genuinely hilarious and amazing chick who, in addition to winning our long term love and admiration, is officially certified to tie the knot.
According to ABC News, Brownstein was in L.A. promoting her new memoir Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl with a reading and book signing when, during a Q&A section, fan Kendall Oshiro piped up from the audience asking if Brownstein and Amy Poehler, who was the event’s co-host, would marry her and her partner, Genevieve Hernandez. “You have to do it!” said Poehler, who gave the couple flowers and burst out into an organ rendition of “Greensleeves.”
A quick but warm blessing was offered by Brownstein who said, “All of us are here rooting for you, the way we root for ourselves, the way we root for love to always win out over despair.”
She later added on Instagram, “Last night the two goofballs pictured in the top panel officiated the marriage of the two beautiful creatures in the bottom panel. Sending love and wishes to these bold travelers: Genevieve and Kendall.”
I guess I know whose book event to crash should I suddenly feel a burning urge to ball-and-chain.
