A Christmas Gift for the Fashion-Minded: New York, Paris, Milan, Third… Delaware

by Phoebe Magee

BUST girl Emily Rems left a little something in my inbox this holiday season, and here I am, on Christmas, to share it with you.  Call me a giver.  For those of you celebrating, or for those of you just celebrating fashion, enjoy:  Third and Delaware.

Some mad genius is meticulously gathering clothing highlights from each and every episode of Roseanne–providing colorful stills, snarky (or sincere?!) commentary, and careful labeling (down to the very season and episode from whence these fashions came).  Now Roseanne was always ahead of its time–bringing up things like sexuality, race, and class in the living rooms of a massive American audience, and celebrating a blue-collar TV family in which the mother worked and few conventions were bowed to.  But what does it say about the show, or about us, that ten years after its finale I know a girl in Brooklyn who would hold up an American Apparel for Nancy’s leggings in Season Six, Episode 11?

In all seriousness, both the Roseanne costumer and the blogger behind “Third and Delaware” are totally winning in their attention to detail.  “What Claudia Wore” is still my favorite purveyor of obsessive nostalgia, but “Third and Delaware”is a close second.  Just look at the way Roseanne’s beer can matches her roll-over cotton turtleneck and tell me you don’t feel festive.
