Album Review: Leslie Hall | Destination Friendship

Reviewed by Adrienne Urbanski

On the quirky, synth-backed Destination Friendship, Iowa native, Internet sensation, and noted bedazzled-sweater collector Leslie Hall sings and raps about such unusual subjects as her fondness for cuddling and proper hydration during a dance party. “Here to Win” pokes fun at the lack of party prospects in rural Iowa, while “Crazy Now” is an ode to a completely bonkers paramour. On “Purchase One,” Hall declares her love for DIY crafts, listing her many creations and declaring, “I could go and purchase one/But that wouldn’t be as fun.” Hall’s distinctive style adds humor to her sexual lyrics on other tracks, such as her offbeat suggestion that she and her lover make a stew together. She clings to irony rather than heartfelt contemplations throughout the entire album, but if you’re looking for laughs and a dance-floor jam, Hall is your girl.
