Releasing her first album in eight years, Kara-Lis Coverdale still knows how to fill the entire space around you. Like a true ambient piece of work, From Where You Came might just be an album you’d want to listen to with your eyes closed or wide open, to elevate your perception of whatever scene you find yourself in. It has a strong nocturnal tone that somehow feels both eerie and relaxing at the same time. It holds space for both playful experimentation and serious introspection. Some tracks also meditate on duality themselves, like “Flickers in the Air of Night,” which blends a melancholic undercurrent with a sense of hope, or “Offload Flip,” which is rooted in electronic textures while also carrying a deeply raw sound. For those who are new to the world of ambient music, don’t be intimidated by this production, as it is certainly not about understanding every layer but feeling your way through the whole.
